'We Have Finally Taken Back Boston': A Runner's Story

About half a mile into the 2014 Boston Marathon, my friend who was running alongside me turned and screamed, “This is the Boston Marathon!”


Part of what he meant, is that the Boston Marathon is an event uniquely wrought with emotion no matter the year. But 2014's race promised something even more.



Almost the moment I stepped off the train in Boston last Friday, I bumped into someone wearing a Boston Marathon jacket from years past. The next day, I saw jackets from 2006, 2013, every year in between and probably more.


The convention center—where everyone goes to buy swag—was nearly filled to its brim. It took half an hour to get through the checkout lineMarathoners I passed in the street would see me, glance down at my running shoes, look back up, and nod.
