Another day, another Google Glass security concern. As the new tech continues to make its way into the mainstream, these occurrences will become all the more common. Having something that sits on your face, sticking out like a sore thumb, with a camera on it, will make anyone a bit apprehensive. It’s something that Glass Explorers — pioneers on the wearable glasses front — continue to face. Well one glass explorer, who has already had her fair share of news coverage regarding Glass, has had another negative experience.
Cecilia Abadie, who won a case against a ticket for driving with Glass, was told by United Airlines flight attendants to take off her Google Glass. She posted this on her Google+ account:
“I’m taking a pic with my cellphone because I’m not allowed to take it with Google Glass. It had to be United the first plane that they asked me to take Glass off because of security concerns.”
Of course, it’s anyone’s guess as to what these security concerns might be. As the picture demonstrates, it’s quite easy to take a picture with one’s cellphone. Even smartwatches are coming with cameras these days. Glass may not be as subtle as taking a photo with a smartwatch but neither is taking a photo with one’s smartphone.
United has always had a policy that taking pictures and recording video of other passengers is strictly prohibited, and maybe the company was making good on that. There are a lot of questions and not a lot of answers at this juncture. Either way, it continues to highlight the issue people are having with the new tech and as it was said before, it’s going to continue to become more common.
