Finally. Free-as-in-beer and free-as-in-speech are together at last.

Open-source integrator Appnovation is sponsoring a free executive breakfast next week Tuesday in San Francisco, in which key leaders of the Mulesoft integration platform and the Alfresco content management system will speak about open source solutions for the enterprise.

Which means, of course, free food and free software, plus free advice on how to integrate these powerful open source solutions into the enterprise.

mulesoftAlfresco currently powers content and document management solutions for organizations as large and diverse as NASA, KLM, Fox Television, and Oxfam International. And Mulesoft, which boasts 150,000 developers and 3,200 corporate implementations, serves as the glue that connects applications, APIs, and legacy systems for companies like Boeing, Toyota, Yahoo, and Adobe.

The mini-summit is sponsored by Appnovation’s Canopy project, which brings together high-quality and commercially-supported open source technologies like PhoneGap, MongoDB, and of course MuleSoft and Alfresco. Other partners who support the project include Google and Acquia, a Drupal platform-as-a-service provider.

“There are so many individual pieces of open source technology,” project coordinator James Heise says. “Canopy is about bringing them together into a complete solution that enterprises can adopt and use easily.”

A recent client, a major international healthcare company, recently reduced its integration costs from about $20 million annually to $5 million by implementing MuleSoft. That savings resulted in a one-year return on investment into the project, ongoing savings each year, and much faster, easier integration with future projects.

The event is on Tuesday next week.

MuleSoft’s Sumit Sharma and Alfresco’s director of product management Peter Monks will discuss using MuleSoft and Alfresco in the enterprise and will be joined by a VP from Universal Music Group, Lee Hammond, who will speak about how his label, Interscope Records, is using the technologies to manage artists, music, marketing, and business.

The doors open at 8AM, and a full complimentary breakfast will be served.
