‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ And The Generic State Of The Comic-Book Blockbuster

The nerd-to-supervillain cliché never gets old. It’s a fantasy that still speaks to some of us. But the villainy has to mean something to the superhero. There has to be some tension in the story, and it can’t lean on simplistic good guy–versus–bad guy expectations.
