Civic-minded social network MindMixer gets $17M to connect communities

Missouri-based startup MindMixer just grabbed $17 million to better connect companies and governments with community members, consumers, and clients.

MindMixer is social-good tech. It is civic minded social networking, focused on connecting community organizations to one another and to the communities they serve to help projects get off the ground. Organizations can post ideas about community improvement projects, like the addition of bike racks in a downtown area, and community members can weigh in. The company hopes to make communication between local non-profits, government organizations, and community members more fluid.

Though this fresh round of funding will help the company move forward, its work is far from over. “Needless to say, the fundraise does not mean we’re going to kick back and take it easy …. We know that we will have to keep working harder than anyone else to achieve our goals and top a growing industry,” MindMixer said in a blog post.

This year alone the company expanded its staff to 74 people and consolidated it’s offices in Kansas City, Mo. With this new round of funding, it hopes to add another 40-60 people to its ranks.

The company has raised $23.2 million since founding in 2010. Investors include Govtech Fund and Dundee Venture Capital.
