Slowly, but surely, the subtle futuristic technology from the film Her is making its way into the real world.
Case in point: Motorola’s new Hint Bluetooth headset, a tiny $150 device that sits discreetly in your ear and is always ready to take calls and command your smartphone.
In Her, tiny wireless earbuds served as the main interface for interacting with smartphones and computers. While it’s not nearly as tiny as those earbuds, the Hint is the smallest Bluetooth headset I’ve seen yet. Motorola expects it to be something that’s always in your ear, rather than something you plug in whenever you need to take a call.
Jawbone attempted something similar with its most recent Era headset. But while that device looks more like a traditional Bluetooth headset, the Hint seems more akin to a high-end hearing aid (that’s a good thing, as they’re often built to be discrete).
The Moto Hint is best suited for the company’s Moto X smartphones, which allow you to command Google Now entirely with voice commands. But it’s also compatible with every other Bluetooth-equipped smartphone, so even iPhone users will be able to get in on the fun.
Motorola says the Hint will be available later this fall.
