ASBURY PARK, N.J. — It's 4:01 a.m., and Howell High School junior Claire Appow is still in her prom dress, ready to make history with country musician Hunter Hayes. Barricade railings separate her from a sweat-drenched Hayes inside rock club The Stone Pony, but from where she stands in her tan heels, she can see him onstage singing "Invisible."
Midway through the song, a horn blows. A Guinness World Records adjudicator takes the microphone to tell Hayes he has just broken the record, previously held by The Flaming Lips and Jay Z, for most live shows played in different cities within 24 hours (though this ninth show here secured the record, he finished with 10 shows in 10 cities in 24 hours).
