SYDNEY — Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott has announced Australia will send 600 military personnel to the Middle East as part of an international bid to fight the Islamic State (ISIS).
During a press conference in Darwin, Northern Territory, on Sunday, Abbott said he would deploy 400 air personnel and 200 military personnel after a specific request from Washington to join the United States in moving forces in to the region.
“The government has decided to prepare and to deploy to the United Arab Emirates a military force,” Mr Abbott said. The United Arab Emirates would serve as a base for the operation. Read more...
