Joey Chestnut, a seven-time hot dog-eating champion, and Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas, a two-time women's winner, will defend their titles Friday at the annual hot dog-eating contest at New York City's Coney Island.

Seventeen men and 13 women will compete this year. The crowd at Coney Island is expected to reach about 30,000, while the TV audience is expected to top 1 million for the Nathan's Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest. The contest will begin at 11 a.m. EST.

Chestnut, who tips the scale at 205 pounds, won last year by downing 69 franks and buns in 10 minutes. The champion hopes to put away his competition by downing a record 70 hot dogs in the same amount of time. The runner-up from 2013, Matt Stonie, will also return to try to take down Chestnut. Last year, Stonie ate 51 hot dogs; he weighs in at 130 pounds. Read more...
