Natural disasters such as floods, severe storms and earthquakes displaced nearly 22 million people in 2013, according to a UN-backed report released last week by the Norwegian Refugee Council’s Internal Displacement Monitoring Center (IDMC). That's twice as many people as those conditions displaced in the 1970s.
According to the Global Estimates report [PDF], storms displaced 14.2 million people last year, while floods displaced 6.2 million and earthquakes displaced 1.2 million.
