LOS ANGELES — While details on True Detective's Season 2 remain slim, HBO executives said Thursday that the upcoming season will, indeed, have well-known actors. But that wasn't necessarily the intention during casting, they said.
"I think the truth of the matter is a number of people — talented, well-known actors — look for great writing," said HBO programming president Michael Lombardo, speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles. "I think the people we will cast will be well-known names, but that wasn't the ambition."

For example, Lombardo said Matthew McConaughey — who's now been nominated for an Emmy for his work on Season 1 of the show — wasn't cast for his star power, which rose before True Detective launched as Dallas Buyers Club picked up Oscar steam.
