Paris authorities will not ban "love locks" on bridges, the city's deputy mayor said Thursday.
After part of a railing on the Pont des Arts collapsed, Bruno Julliard announced the city was looking for alternative ways for lovers to show their affection (including ribbons). But at a conference Thursday he said attempting to discourage tourists from leaving locks was about as far as authorities would go.
“Handing out fines will fix nothing, we are not going to station police there 24 hours a day,” Julliard said. However, an increased police presence may still be felt on the bridges — by vendors who sell the locks. Read more...
