
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio didn’t mention net neutrality once during his first speech to the city’s tech sector on Monday.
Instead, he zeroed in on expanding free public Internet access and building the city’s tech scene through education, outlining a plan that would expand the foundations laid by his predecessor Michael Bloomberg.
De Blasio wants the city’s tech sector to encompass all five boroughs, which he said will require a focus on educational programs in each to prepare students for tech-specific jobs. He also addressed immigration reform, saying that it will be hard for the city to retain talented foreign students if it’s difficult for them to get work visas. Read more…
