Social Network for Travelers Takes Flight

Social Network for Travelers Takes Flight Social Network for Travelers Takes FlightVirgin America airlines is in the process of launching a new social network exclusive to the airline that will make the friendly skies even friendlier.

The platform, we’re told, allows passengers to connect – mostly for professional benefits – on their flights.

They created the network through Here On Biz, a social proximity app (exclusive to iOS) that pairs LinkedIn with location data.

NativeMobile reports that the Virgin network works not only during flights but also at airports.

“Travelers simply have to download the Here On Biz app to appear on the network, thus eliminating the possibility of people finding you if you prefer to not be found,” writes report author Rebecca Novak.

To promote the social network, Virgin is offering complimentary in-flight WiFi access until July 2014 and a “Network on the Fly” sale promoting discounts associated with the network.

Luanne Calvert, chief marketing officer of Virgin America, said that because the company is based out of Silicon Valley and thus has many tech-focused customers, it made sense to create the network.
