California establishments seemed to have been the most lenient when it comes to Google Glass policies, but recent news from a San Francisco bar would prove otherwise.
In a somewhat “techie” area of the city, a bar known as The Willows has banned customers from using Google Glass while in the restaurant. A sign has been placed outside, which states, “Our patrons have expressed concern with being recorded while enjoying themselves at The Willows.” An image of a pair of Google Glass is under the statement, with a large red circle and cross running through it. “Kindly remove before entering,” is printed below the image.
Because “the customer is always right,” it makes sense that the bar would ban Google Glass if it was bothering other patrons. The last thing a bar wants to do is lose business, and I can’t imagine a Glass-wearer not agreeing to simply remove his/her Glass before entering bar. It isn’t too much to ask, and is certainly understandable.
As etiquette for Google Glass and other wearables continues to develop over the next few years, we’ll continue to keep you updated on what is and what is not acceptable in certain locations.
