Say 'Happy Fourth!' With These Creepy Vintage Postcards

The Fourth of July fills most people's minds with visions of the beach, barbecue, fireworks and jello shots. If you were living in the 1900s, you’d add greeting cards to the list (and probably remove the jello shots).


According to American University, Fourth of July postcards were popular in the early 20th century. Traditionally coming in packs of six, it was common to send these cards to family and friends to spread cheer and patriotic pride on Independence Day.



In 2014, a time of GIFs and Facebook pokes, these real-life Fourth of July cards have become obsolete and, to be honest, a little creepy. Nowadays, small children with unnaturally rosy cheeks hugging fireworks don't inspire patriotism in most.
