Report: Facebook to Account for 21.7 Percent of Global Mobile Ad Market in 2014 (AllFacebook)

Market research outfit eMarketer projected that Facebook will account for 21.7 percent of the global mobile ad market in 2014, up from 17.5 percent in 2013 and just 5.4 percent in 2012. Google still commands the lion’s share of the sector, with eMarketer pegging it for a 46.8 percent share in 2014, and attributing its drop from nearly 50 percent in 2013 to the social network’s growth. MediaPost This year, mobile advertising is on pace to rise another 75.1 percent to $31.45 billion, which would account for nearly a quarter of total digital ad spending worldwide. Combined, Facebook and Google saw an increase of $6.92 billion in net mobile ad revenues in 2013. Ad Age Wednesday’s report marks yet another adjustment from the research firm, as mobile ad dollars balloon far faster than expected. The final spending figure of $18 billion is nearly double the firm’s estimates from just four months ago. TIME Less than two years ago Facebook’s stock price was plummeting because of doubts that the social network could replicate its desktop-based ad business on smartphones. But the company began cramming ads directly into users’ news feeds and selling more mobile-native products, like ads that let users install a new app with just a few clicks. Mashable Twitter was the only major player other than Facebook to log an increase in its share of the mobile ad market, up from 1.5 percent to 2.4 percent. Increasing share in a growth market can do wonders for a company.
